Blogging Health Check Task
After looking at this feedback, i am pleased with the amount of effort i put into my blog. Despite the positive feedbacks, i know that there is room for improvement in order for me boost up my grade. My main aim is to continue to present my work in much detail as i possibly can and post frequently on blog.
Task : Blogging Health Check 1- Feedback and targets

my initial individual idea:
my genre: I would have the genre as a thriller mystery type genre with lots of questions throughout I would make it very difficult to understand if you have not yet seen the movie which will make people want to know the answers to the questions.
the initial plot: this would be that my main charectar is extremely intelligent and has the power to make people do whatever he pleases just by looking into their eyes he decides to hack into the authorities and single handedly bring all of the worlds authorities crashing down he will reveal all of the secrets that the government has to the rest of the world, he is slightly deluded in thinking that this would be justice however this perhaps may cause chaos therfeore the worlds top hacker and a squad is assigned to track and bring him down een if that means taking his life as the online battle rages who will be victorious and could the battle escalate beyond the net?
charectar types the main charectars extremely intelligent, and then side charectars who are manipulated in order for his deluded scheme to work.

How easy was it to come up with an idea?
Coming up with an idea was easy because the prop and the location were matched and the title could be tailored to the plot.
How do we feel about it?
We are confident with this idea as it has unique feautres and an interesting storyline which could be appealing to a wider audience.
Are we planning to use this idea as ou final title sequence?
As we are confident with this idea, we might consider using this idea because it's a reallu good idea that hasn't been used and the majority of us are in favour of this genre type.

What is the purpose of a title sequence and film opening?
The purpose of a title sequence is to establish company credits, introduces the names of the actors as well as the staff and producers. In addition, title sequences aim to grab the audiences attention, attrating them to the film so they continue to watch the film.
Favourite Previous Student Work
22. Kenny, David, Tristen, Thabiti from 283goswellg on Vimeo.
This work from group 22 brings tension and excitement. Firstly, the credits are presented very well and the font emphasises the theme of the film. The police sirens also increases the tension and everything happens so quickly. This signifies that there will be some form of trouble or danger in the film.I love how we get to see different angles of the scene.

Analysis on the use of sound in Lord of War film opening
The opening scene in Lord of War contains both diegetic and undiegetic sound. The film opening starts off with birds singing, followed by the actors mini statement to the camera comes after. The actors message in the beginning is effective as he gives a hint of what the whole plot may be about. The opening then leads the viewers to a folk rock song by the Buffulo Springfield. From the lyrics of the song, the audience is able to figure out that something unpleasent and suspicious is going to occur in the film. Whilst the song plays, there are Ambient sounds in the background such as gun shots, machines, moving objects and pistol bullets mioving around. The background sound of the pistol bullets corresponds to the movements of the pistols in the scene (known asd Synchronous sound) and this sound is highly effective and noticable which suggests that the pistol bullet is significant throught the film. From exploring the use of sound in Lord Of War filming opening, the viewers are able to identify that the genre of the film is either action or thriller. In my opinion, the use of sound doesnt make the film any more interesting than it would without the sound as the moving images already gives a hint of what the plot could be about.

Task 17:
The use of Sound in a Film Opening:
The Taking of Pelham 123;
In this title sequence the sound played a very important part. The sound was the main reason in which the genre was predicted. Without the sound there would be confusion as to what the genre of this film is and what the jump scenes are for. The ambient sound gave the sound of a busy street and the sound of the moving train suggested it was a train station in which the film is located. The music gave an action feel to it because it was very fast paced and a little aggressive. There was also dialogue present in the title sequence which gave a quick introduction to the people taking's personalities.

Task 16:
The Importance of Sound in Film:
Sound is used in film to establish tone, atmosphere and to help give the audience clues about the plot, characters or to identify the Genre of the film. It is also used to help 'suspend belief' to create realism for the viewer and heighten their experience of the film.
There have been many developments in sound and sound design over the course of film history and we now have the technology to ensure that a films sound is a 3 dimensional, visceral experience that makes the film as enjoyable to hear as it is to watch.
When watching The Taking of Pelham 123 title sequence without sound, i felt very bored and had no idea what was happening nor did i have an idea of the genre the movie was. There was also a lot of jumping around from place to place.
However when there was sound it was a lot more entertaining and i almost immediately realized what the genre of the movie was. it made me feel more engaged knowing exactly what was happening and the jump scenes were more discrete because they blended in with the sound.
There are many sound effects that are stereotyped to belonging to specific genres in film such as; Western films stereo-typically having a whistle tune with horses in the background and usually gun shots, Action movies usually include guns in the sounds as well as the use of fast paced music. This is the reason why I believe sound is so important to title sequences.

Why is sound so important in film?
Sound in film is extremely important mainly because of the way music engages the viewer, for example after watching 3 clips, one with only diegetic sound which was not very engaging and did not make the viewer feel like it was a movie, then the second clip just had non diegetic which made it feel like it was more of a music video and did not give the feel of an engaging movie at all, however the third clip was layering of both which made the clip feel like a movie and engaged the viewers and made the viewer want to keep watching.
Also i found out sound was important in film by seeing how many aspects of sound there is:
Ambient sound which is sound which is present in the scene.
score which is sound made specifically for a film
foley which is everyday sound effects for example a broken glass
and many more different types of sound which have helped me understand the importance of sound.

the music played throughout this sequence is not only very eerie but child like which could make us think of innocence perhaps and that when these titles and images are the complete opposite it can show the contrast between innocence and distorted psychopathic intentions which are complete opposites making us ponder upon what the possible outcome could be.
13
sound is extremely important as it really sets the mood for a movie, however it takes up another one of your senses making you become even more enveloped in a title sequence when all you can see and hear is that sequence you are not distracted and have full focus on that sequence making you want to watch it even more as you become interested.
it builds tension in the case of music and diegetic sounds such as shouting, movement create realism

SINISTER
the macro elements- the story line will revolve around death as we can clearly see people being hung in the opening scene , key themes will be mystery and death as we cannot see who's doing this(cutting the branch of the tree). characters will most likely be a family due to the victims in the opening and the plot will be some kind of attack on this family.
micro- the sound is the sound of a tape recorder trying to play a tape which links with the theme of the filming. the mise-en-scene is the tree being cut and what looks like a family being hung. however we are not allowed to see who is doing it
AMERICAN HORROR STORY
macro; the storyline looks to be psychopathic due to the obsession we can see through the dolls etc.
the key themes again will be psychopathic horror perhaps due to someone's psychotics we will see a lot of messed up things such as these distorted dolls.
the mise-en-scene is just darkness will little horrific elements making there way into the screen such as blood darkness and these dolls. we can hear a deep tone playing continuously throughout the sequence with sharp tones flashing throughout sounding like interception
SCREAM
we know that the storyline again is going to be psychopathic and not supernatural due to elements of the opening such as a doll with drawings all over the face of it, the key themes will be murder and perhaps watching as we see things such as a rocking chair with no one on it which could suggest that someone has moved it but we cant see who they are which shows secret observation. the plot may be a stalker or someone trying to attack a person therefore they watch them.
the mise-en-scene is title credits coming up on the screen and then shaking and disappearing off of the scree this vibrating of the credits suggests instability and we are shown some but little elements of horror. the sound is just sinister music that sounds so eerie, so happy its scary.

target audience: a particular group at which a product such as a film or advertisement is aimed
this would be dependant on the genre for example if I was making an animated film and aimed it at children I would bring in elements of comedy, bright colours, unexplainable, the bizarre and many more due to children being very imaginative you need to appeal to this side of them.
if it was a horror for example this would be aimed at more mature viewers and you would want to have an element of darkness and sinister themes running throughout the sequence.
this is an advertisement for the horror sinister 2 it would appeal to audiences that like a thrill and a fright, it would also be more of a supernatural horror and revolves around the corruption of children's innocence, which may appeal to the older and more mature generation .
whereas when children are the target audience it will look more like this.
Scooby-doo trailer 2002, we see elements of mystery answered by comedy. like the burp in the trailer, how two idiots can idiotically make everything better which appeals to children and the fact that Scooby-doo can talk also would appeal too a much younger audience.
9
genre: I have learned that genre can be many things rather than being set we can have mixed and hybrid genres we have thriller, comedy, horror, action and others such as rom-com which is mixed and so on, genre is not set and is actually very flexible however when making a still or title sequence for film you must incorporate the genre within it.
below are the stills to 3 of my favourite horrors, I believe them to be very eye catching due to the quotes, images, titles and small text.

my favourite type of title sequence is a "discreet" title sequence, this is a sequence that brings in the credits and names of people discretely as you are completely focused on the title sequence itself.
I like this because it doesn't let you attention be drawn away from the sequence which is happening an example is se7en although the titles come across you do not focus on them due to the title sequence being so bizarre, it really draws you in to the world of the film.

my favourite film is death note and the title sequence is extremely interesting due to the weird twisted plot of the story the title sequence just increases the mystery of the film. the title sequence has cuts from the film in it and has notes popping up on the screen which completely intercept the title sequence. and flashes back and forward from someone's hand writing in the notebook an then peoples mixed views on this so called KIRA the main character of the story there are police and flashing lights meanwhile the rules of the notebook are being red out over the sequence, then we see an "L" pop up on the screen and a voice which says something, it has found out a big mystery in the plot which then introduces the constant conflict between the main character Yagami Light (KIRA) and the detective L now because this is based on an anime many people would have seen people automatically have high expectations for the film and understand the plot and the title sequence plays on this and uses the viewers pre-existing knowledge to make the title sequence better. music then starts to play and we are further introduced to L and he says "he is most likely kira" which builds on the viewers knowledge of L's intellectual superiority in the film. the characters names are introduced as the rules still pop up on the screen, we hear twisted ideals as Yagami Light says "I am righteous" he believes he is absolutely correct and that he is the law and L says "I will definitely win" and we are introduced to the battle between geniuses it then ends with the chuckle of a death god and states "humans are interesting" which makes us believe this may be bigger than all of them.

My Favourite Film Title Sequence Analysis
HOME ALONE
Why i love this movie
Firstly, i enjoy watching this movie because it is a christmas movie that contains humour yet portrays emotions. I also admire this movie because i get overly excited when i see all the traps and as a child, i've always wished that i could be as brave as the main actor (Macaulay Culkin). The main character in the film teaches young children to be careful and responsible. He also teaches young children to be independent. This movie also teaches us about compassion and family.
Title Sequence
Home Alone has two seperate title sequences; one which is a moving image opening and the other is animated.
The animation title sequence institutes the company and production name along with the title of the
film. This appears and fades slowly. The font is childlike which impacts the rest of the movie as the main character is a child. The viewers are also introduced to the name of the actors in the film. The credits are accompied by animated drawings. The title sequence concludes with the name of an actor along with the name of their character name. This indicates that this actor has the highest pay.

Audience Profiles for Films
What is Target Audience?
Comedy Film- The Hangover
Most People would assume that the comedy film 'The Hangover'
would gain more male viewers than female viewers. However,
according to my research from yougov, The Hangover is most viewedby females between the ages 25 to 39. This may be surprising as males are considered to be into humour and jokes more than women and comedy movies contain more male characters ( particularly in The Hangover), therefore i would expect more males to view this film. From the chart below, it states that London is the reign where most people have viewed the film. People who have viewed this film are describe themselves as clever but on some occasions they can be boring and lazy. The hobbies that they are into are listening to music and watching movies and the brands theyt consume are Apple and John Lewis.
Overall, i compared the audience profile of this film to other comedy films including Bad moms and the profile results are very similar: age range, gender and location are common. This signifies that young females are interested in comedies.

Action Film- Captain America:The Winter Soldier
This audience profile seems reliable as some people would expect men from 25 years old and older, who work in military and defence to watch action movies.
Thriller Film-Hitman
Thriller films are generally viewed by brave, idiosyncratic and relaxed men from the ages 25 to 39. This profile is reliable as the some thriller films can be uncomfortable or scary to watch.

Task 13:
Target Audience: A particular group at which a product such as a film is aimed at.
Action: I had originally guessed that this genre will be aimed at the working class man between the age of 15-25 years old. After researching this genre using The Bourne Ultimatum as the film, I had found that the target audience was in fact working men between the ages of 18-26 years old. In terms of lifestyle they were interested in football, news and science technology. Their most likely pet is a dog. Personality wise they are analytical, relaxed, trust worthy but sometimes a bit quiet. They consume brands such as JBB sports and Hunter.
